Fatcow vs Amazon – Hosting Comparison – AmazonReview
Amazon web services are becoming increasingly popular because it allows users to build and host a website completely free, at least in the beginning. But don’t let the word “free” lure you away from web hosting services that offer all of the perks at a reasonable price, such as FatCow.
The FatCow package includes tons of disk space and bandwidth, unlimited domains per account and email accounts, online ShopSite store that accepts credit cards and PayPal, unlimited POP mailboxes and daily server backups.
With FatCow, your website can integrate with Google Custom Search and Google Webmaster Tools, plus you’ll get free web analytics tools and a website builder. They also offer an affiliate program and a referral program. The company is also 100% powered by wind energy.
FatCow pricing depends on the length of the plan you choose. If you choose a longer plan, the monthly rate is lower. A 12 month plan is $9.49 a month, a 24 month plan is $8.49 a month and a 36 month plan is $7.49 a month. They also run a ton of specials, for example right now there is a special introductory price of $4.67 a month.
Amazon services start out free, but the free service is extremely limiting, especially if you are trying to run a business. Once you outgrow the free Amazon package, you’ll be paying a fee for the service. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to say how much this is going to cost because it’s based on payments that are processed through your website. Fortunately, Amazon does offer a flex-pay option (but there are additional fees to use the flex-pay).
One of the biggest advantages of FatCow over Amazon is the SUPPORT. Amazon offers support for an additional fee on top of the transaction based fees. This starts at $45 a month and goes up based on usage. For this fee, lower level users will get email support and higher level users will get email, chat, phone and live video. The response time Amazon gives you is based on your usage as well – basically the more you pay them the more service you get.
With FatCow, everyone gets 24/7 support through phone, email and live chat. There is an FAQ Library that can also help and a customizable control panel to help you navigate. There is also an extensive collection of step-by-step tutorials to walk you through pretty much everything you might need to do.
Overall Rating of Fatcow: 5 stars
